Sawa is named after Sawa Lake, a Southern Iraqi landmark known for its high salinity near the Iraqi marshes.
Certified Fair Trade by the Fair Trade Federation & handcrafted by an Iraqi artisan seeking to build a better life for her or his family.
Each rug measures 3’ x 5’ (0.9 x 1.5 m)and hand-woven using traditional techniques in Iraq's southern region. Each rug uses 100% organic sheep's wool sourced from local farmers. To preserve its beauty, stains can be removed with a damp cloth and gentle soap or vacuum.
BANEEN ZAMAM ATEAH
Baneen Zamam Ateah lives in Al-Muthanna Province, Iraq. Through Prosperity Catalyst’s vocational program, she learned traditional rug weaving and was able to join a supportive network of artisan women. After graduation, Baneen led 10 other women in the launch of an artisan rug weaving business, which supports the futures of their families.
